Breakdown towing is the bread and butter of what we do: a vehicle that was working an hour ago has stopped, will not restart, and now has to be moved. We cover the south-east Colombo corridor around the clock from our Pannipitiya base, and most breakdown calls in our core areas see a truck with you inside the hour.
What counts as a breakdown
Anything mechanical or electrical that leaves the vehicle unable to continue safely under its own power. In practice the most common are a battery or charging fault that a jump-start has not resolved, overheating, a clutch or gearbox failure, a fuel system problem, or a drivetrain noise serious enough that continuing would turn an expensive repair into a much more expensive one.
Before you call for a tow
Two things are worth checking, because they occasionally save you a tow entirely. First, if the engine turns over slowly or clicks and the lights are dim, it may be a flat battery rather than a genuine failure — a jump-start can resolve that. Second, if the engine cut out and the fuel gauge is very low, the answer may be simpler than you fear. Beyond that, do not keep cranking the engine repeatedly; it drains the battery further and can flood the engine, which makes everything afterwards harder.
Where the vehicle goes
Your garage, your home, or a workshop we can suggest if you do not have one in the area. We do not have an arrangement that requires taking your vehicle to a particular place, and you should be wary of any operator who insists on one. It is your vehicle and your choice.
Repeat breakdowns
If the same vehicle has needed towing more than once in a short period, the problem is rarely bad luck. Tell your mechanic exactly what happened both times, including whether it restarted afterwards and how long it ran. That pattern is often more diagnostic than anything a scan tool shows.
The breakdowns we see most
Across the corridor, the pattern is consistent. Electrical and charging faults account for the largest share, particularly on vehicles doing short trips in heavy traffic where the alternator never gets enough running time. Cooling system failures come next, and they are the ones where continuing to drive causes the most expensive damage. Clutch and gearbox problems are third and the most likely to strand a vehicle somewhere awkward, because they tend to fail progressively and then completely, usually while moving.
Getting the vehicle to the right place
If you already have a garage you trust, that is where the vehicle should go, even if it is further. If you do not, tell us what the symptoms were and roughly where you want it, and we can point you at workshops in the corridor that handle that kind of work. We do not take a cut for that and we are not sending you anywhere in particular — a recommendation you can ignore is worth more than one you cannot.
Breakdown coverage
Twenty-four hours a day across Maharagama, Nugegoda, Pannipitiya, Kottawa, Homagama, Thalawathugoda, Battaramulla, Malabe, Piliyandala, Boralesgamuwa and the rest of the south-east Colombo corridor.
What decides the price
Towing is never one flat number. Here is exactly what we ask about, so you know what the quote is based on.
- Distance — How far we travel to reach you, and how far the vehicle then has to go.
- Vehicle type — A hatchback, an SUV, a van and a motorcycle are four different jobs with different equipment.
- Condition — Rolling on all four wheels is simple. Seized wheels, no gearbox or accident damage need a flatbed or a winch.
- Access and time — A clear main road at noon is not the same as a narrow lane, a basement car park or a ditch at 3am.
Tell us the vehicle, where it is and what happened. You get a clear price on the phone before a truck rolls, and you approve it before we start.
