Most towing is not urgent. A car that will not start in your own driveway is an inconvenience you can deal with in the morning. Emergency towing is the other category: the vehicle is somewhere it should not be, and every minute it stays there carries a risk to you, to the traffic around you, or to both. This service runs twenty-four hours a day across Colombo for exactly those situations.
When it is genuinely an emergency
Treat it as one if the vehicle is in a live traffic lane, on a bend, on a crest, or anywhere approaching drivers will not see it until late. If you are on an unlit stretch at night. If you are blocking a junction, a bus route or an expressway approach. If you are alone, or travelling with children or elderly passengers, on a road with no safe place to wait. If there is smoke, a smell of burning, or fuel on the road. If you have stopped somewhere that simply does not feel safe that instinct is usually correct and is worth acting on rather than talking yourself out of.
The first two minutes
Hazard lights before anything else. Then decide whether to stay in the vehicle or get out, and on a fast road the answer is almost always to get out. The instinct is to stay put, because the car feels like shelter. It is not. A stationary vehicle struck from behind at speed is the worst outcome available, and everyone inside it is in the impact. Get out on the side away from traffic, move everybody well back from the carriageway behind a barrier or up a bank if there is one and wait there. The vehicle can be repaired or replaced.
If you carry a warning triangle, place it far enough back that a driver has time to react, which is considerably further than most people put it. On a fast road that means a good distance, and you should be walking on the verge, not the carriageway, to place it.
What to send us
In an emergency, less information sent quickly beats more information sent slowly. Send your location pin on WhatsApp — that single action removes the largest source of delay, which is finding you. Then one line: what the vehicle is and what happened. That is enough to dispatch. We will ask everything else while the truck is already moving.
Do not spend five minutes composing a careful message. Do not try to describe your position by road name and landmark if you can drop a pin instead. If your phone battery is low, send the pin first and worry about the details after.
Blocking traffic changes the sequence
If the vehicle is blocking a lane, the job is not simply to load it. The first move is often to get it out of the running lane and load it properly a few metres away, because positioning a truck around a vehicle in live traffic is slower and more dangerous than moving the vehicle first. On a junction or a bus route that decision matters even more, because a queue builds behind you within minutes and then the truck cannot get in at all. Night work
A large share of our calls come between ten at night and five in the morning, and that is not incidental it is when a breakdown is worst and when help is hardest to find. Roads are darker, following traffic is faster, fewer people pass to help, and most operators are not genuinely staffed. We are, which is the reason this service exists as a named thing rather than as a footnote on the general towing page.
At night the recovery itself carries more risk than the breakdown did. The truck arrives with proper lighting and, where the road allows, is positioned to shield the scene from approaching traffic before loading starts. That takes an extra minute and it is not optional.
Unrequested help
Worth knowing, because it happens on busier roads: an operator you did not call may arrive and press you to let them take the vehicle. They will often be helpful, insistent and vague about cost. Do not hand over your keys to anyone you did not contact, do not agree to a destination you did not choose, and do not let a vehicle be moved before you have photographed its position if there has been any collision. Recovering a vehicle from an operator who has taken it somewhere of their own choosing is far harder than declining politely at the roadside.
Water and flooding
During the monsoon months a specific emergency recurs across the corridor: a vehicle driven into standing water that turned out to be deeper than it looked, now stopped and filling. If that is your situation, get out and get clear first — moving water is far stronger than it appears and a vehicle can shift without warning. Once you are safe, do not attempt to restart the engine under any circumstances. If water has entered the intake, cranking the engine turns a recoverable vehicle into a rebuild, because water does not compress. Tell us it has been in water and we will tow it rather than trying to start it.
Why the wait feels longer than it is
Every operator quotes an arrival window and every stranded driver experiences it as longer. Part of that is simply how time passes when you are standing on a verge, but part of it is real and worth understanding. A truck dispatched at rush hour into any of the main approaches is subject to the same congestion everyone else is, and no amount of urgency changes the physical distance. What we can control is where we start from and how honestly we tell you the window.
What we can do is tell you the truth about the window. A live ETA that turns out to be accurate is worth far more than an optimistic one that does not, because it lets you decide whether to wait with the vehicle, arrange a lift, or make a call about onward plans.
